Hello, friends! I have to tell you about my weekend at Weird Tex Fest 2014. I went a couple weeks ago and it was an amazing experience. This was my first book event, and I was so excited to be there. Got my box of books, my storage container of supplies, and I was ready! It was so much fun to be able to set up a table and sell my book to people who are interested in my story. I was able to talk to them and share excitement with them. They were all so nice! I met some great people while I was there, who are very supportive.
I was also asked to speak a little about my book, which was definitely new. I’m used to giving presentations for school/work, but this was a different realm. It was talking about something more personal and a completely different type of audience, which made it more exciting. I definitely wouldn’t mind doing it again!
The event brought together some fascinating people from some very different areas like cryptozoology, psychics, ghost hunters, and others. I met cryptozoologists Lyle Blackburn and Ken Gerhard. Lyle and I traded books, so I have a signed copy of The Beast of Boggy Creek. Great book! It’s an in-depth look at the Boggy Creek Monster, complete with fascinating stories, eye-witness accounts, theories, a full accounting of the making of the movie The Legend of Boggy Creek, and some great pictures. I’ll be posting a full review.
On the way home, we stopped by Dinosaur Valley State Park. Good news: I only fell twice! So there were slippery rocks and I had a clumsy day, but I made it out with only a few bruises. Still, I had a great time. There were some great dinosaur tracks, which I loved because it was fulfilling a childhood dream of playing paleontologist. Many Jurassic Park quotes were thrown about. The park was beautiful, with a great swimming spot that would be fun in the warmer months. We hopped across the rocks on the river to see some tracks, and I didn’t fall there!
